My brother helped a friend in buying a car. Now the other person ran away??

So the car is under both names (my brother and the other person). But now the 'friend' ran away.. no where to be found and made no payments to the car. it's been 6 months and the bank is calling us and sending the case to litigation and searching for the car. They told us that we need to get to court and maybe explain and see what the judge says.. What to do??? Will the judge decide to help us find the 'friend'?? Can we take my brother's name off the car??? HELP!!
